What is chemistry? Let us start with the most basic definition listed by the American Heritage Dictionary. "Chemistry is the science of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially of atomic and molecular systems."
A definition is fine and dandy, but what does a chemist really do? Chemists are hard working, intellectual, and curious people wanting to bring innovation and make breakthroughs for the advancement of our society as a whole. Chemists dedicate long hours researching new reactions, molecules, and processes in order to make our lives better. We, as a society, truly owe these scientists a huge debt in developing modern foods and drugs to plastics and computers. The list goes on and on but the impact of chemistry cannot be overstated.
Our club is dedicated to promoting chemistry. Whether a person is young or old, we want to spark everyone's interest in this beautiful science. We want to make an impact that could lead to future chemical researchers. Not only do we want to promote chemistry, but also promote all the careers that are influenced by this science. Biologists, Physicists, Doctors, Environmental Scientists, Geologists, Engineers, and many others use the foundations of chemistry in their everyday lives.
Our club is dedicated in making a difference in people's lives. We want others to understand that chemistry is not a science we should be frustrated with. Chemistry should be a science we embrace. Many have thought that chemistry is an impossible science to understand. We want that stigma to change in that chemistry is not impossible, chemistry can be understood, and, ultimately, that chemistry is one of the most important sciences not to be taken for granted.
For anyone that has taken the time to read this message, thank you! You have made the first step in realizing how significant chemistry is in your life. Now go out there and make a difference!
